The Korea Computer Center (KCC), hailed as a major software development
center in Pyongyang, North Korea is perhaps the latest one to cement
the concept that 'imitation can indeed be the best form of flattery'. It
seems developers at KCC were highly inspired by Cupertino-based Apple
when creating their latest operating system.

Version 3.0 of Red Star Linux (North Korea's home-grown operating
system) closely follows on the heels of Mac OS X providing users with a
radical 'refresh' of its desktop design, but is it? Meanwhile, the
developers bid adieu to the Windows 7-like desktop that was used in
version 2.0 of the software. The revamped version 3 was revealed when
Will Scott, a computer scientist who recently spent a semester teaching
at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST) posted
screenshots of the same after buying basic version 3 software.
KCC
began developing Red Star about a decade ago. The OS features a web
browser based on 'Mozilla' that has been re-named 'Naenara' translating
to 'My country' in English. It also includes a copy of Wine.
