Start Menu - Enable or Disable Log off






information   Information
This will show you how to enable or disable the Log off option in the Start Menu for all users in Windows 7.

You must be logged in as an administrator to be able to this tutorial.

Note
When Log off is disable in the Start Menu, Log off is remove in the Start Menu power button and grayed out in the arrow menu to the right of the power button.

OPTION ONE
Using a REG File Download
1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what you would like to do.

2. To Enable "Log Off" in the Start Menu for All Users
NOTE: This is the default setting.
A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Disable "Log Off" in the Start Menu for All Users
A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.
Disable_Start_Menu_Log_off.reg

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. Restart the computer to apply.

8. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.



OPTION TWO
Through the Local Group Policy Editor
1. Open the all users, specific users or groups, or all users except administrators Local Group Policy Editor for how you want this policy applied.

2. In the left pane, click on to expand User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Start Menu and Taskbar. (see screenshot below)

3. In the right pane, double click on Remove Logoff on the Start Menu. (see screenshot above)

4. To Enable "Log Off" in the Start Menu
A) Select (dot) either Not Configured or Disabled. (see screenshot below step 6)
NOTE: Not Configured is the default setting.

B) Go to step 6.
5. To Disable "Log Off" in the Start Menu
A) Select (dot) Enabled. (see screenshot below step 6)
6. Click on OK. (see screenshot below)

7. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window.
